The Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild (CSFG) is an incorporated association for Canberra-based creators of speculative fiction – science fiction, fantasy or horror – in any medium. Most of our members are writers of short stories, novels or both.

Our goal is to support and provide development opportunities for our members as they move from aspiring, to published to (fingers crossed) professional makers of spec-fic.

Oh, and also, world domination.

To achieve these goals we do a number of things:

  • This website, through which we promote our members’ work, activities and achievements in speculative fiction, and celebrate their successes.

  • An online community through Yahoo! Groups, which is open to anyone in the Greater Canberra region… which currently encompasses the Pacific Rim but we’re probably flexible on that if you ask us (see “world domination”, above).

  • Publishing our (semi)regular series of short story anthologies, edited by CSFG members and to which our members and other writers from around Australia contribute.

  • Monthly members’ meetings at which we discuss the business of the association and conduct informal workshops by members and guest speakers on the craft and business of creating speculative fiction

  • novel writing group, and critiquing groups for short stories and novels, which also meet regularly.

  • Our members also participate in writing events like Write-a-Book-in-a-Day and NaNoWriMo, and many of our members are active elsewhere in small-press publishing and in the Australian convention scene (in particular, the annual Conflux convention in Canberra).
